WELCOME TO CHÂTEAU LE BREUIL

Pierre Rode
Now a family home, Château Le Breuil nevertheless retains much of the original Georgian interior and Regency style décor - notably in the foyer, library and dining room.

Giuseppina Grassini
Louis Combes, the protégé of the great architect Victor Louis who designed and built the beautiful Grand Théatre, the famous staircase at the Opéra de Paris and indeed most of Bordeaux at the time; rebuilt the château in 1790 for Napoleon's composer and 1st violinist, Pierre Rode.
Rode and Napoleon shared the love of the noted Italian Soprano Giuseppina Grassini who was regarded as one of the greatest singers on stage between the 18th and 19th centuries. Upon Napolean's exile in 1814, Rode then shared his mistress with the Duke of Wellington who was at that time British Ambassodor in France
Thusly steeped in history, Château Le Breuil retains similarities with Rodes better known design of Château Margaux. It's neoclassical form is set in seven hectares of park with additional gardens and a mile long boulevard at the front, entered through classic wrought iron gates. Le Breuil is close to Bordeaux' Buzet, Duras and St Emilion vineyards and is surrounded by no less than 14 regions in Aquitaine alone which cover a surface area of 144.000 hectares making it the number one wine region in France. By car, the city of Bordeaux is 50 minutes away and Bergerac airport is 45 minutes.
